Welcome to the family! We are so glad you’re here. Deciding to learn the piano is a huge step. It’s exciting! It’s rewarding! And honestly, it’s one of the best things you can do for your soul.

At Piano Keys for Christ, LLC, we believe everyone can play. Whether you are three years old or eighty-three, there is a seat on the bench for you! We focus on more than just notes. We focus on a supportive, Christian environment where you can grow.

But where do you start? The first 90 days are the most important. This is when you build the habits. This is when the magic happens! Let’s walk through your quick-start guide to mastering the basics in just three months.

A Supportive Place to Start

Before we dive into the schedule, let's talk about environment. Learning something new can be scary. You might worry about hitting the wrong note. Don’t! In our studio, mistakes are just stepping stones. We keep things friendly and encouraging. We are here to lift you up!

Our teachers love what they do. They are experts, but they are also friends. Check out our teachers to see who will be guiding you. We want you to feel right at home from the very first minute.

Days 1–10: The Foundation

You’ve got your keyboard. You’ve got your bench. Now what? These first ten days are all about the setup!

1. Find Your Posture

Don’t slouch! Sit tall. Your back should be straight but not stiff. Keep your feet flat on the floor. If you’re teaching a little one, they might need a footstool. Proper posture helps you play longer without getting tired.

2. Hand Shape

Think about holding a bubble. You don't want to pop it! Keep your hands curved. Use the tips of your fingers (except your thumb). This gives you the best control.

3. Learn the Geography

Look at the black keys. See the patterns? They come in groups of twos and threes. These are your landmarks! Find the two black keys. The white key to the left is "C." Just like that, you’ve found your home base!

Days 11–30: Finding the Notes

Now that you know where you are, let’s start moving! This phase is all about note reading and basic patterns.

Repetition is Your Best Friend

In the beginning, you need to see the notes over and over. Dedicate five minutes of every practice just to naming notes. Point at a key. Say it out loud! "C! E! G!" It feels simple, but it builds a foundation that lasts a lifetime.

Your First Song

Yes, you can play a song in your first month! Usually, we start with something simple like "Mary Had a Little Lamb" or a basic hymn. Playing a recognizable melody is the best feeling in the world. It keeps you motivated!

Days 31–60: Building the Rhythm

You know the notes. Now, let’s get the timing right! Music is about more than just the right keys, it’s about the heartbeat of the song.

1. Use a Metronome

It might beep, but it’s helpful! A metronome keeps you steady. Start slow. Speed up only when you can play the piece perfectly at a slow pace.

2. Hand Coordination

This is where it gets tricky! Playing with both hands at once takes practice. Start by playing the right hand alone. Then the left hand alone. Then, very slowly, put them together. Take it one measure at a time!

3. Stay Consistent

Life gets busy. We get it! But try to touch the keys every day. Even 15 minutes makes a difference. Consistency beats long, occasional practice sessions every single time.

Days 61–90: Growing Your Repertoire

You’re two months in! You’re officially a piano player! Now we start adding more tools to your belt.

1. Add Some Dynamics

Play soft. Play loud! Music needs feeling. Start paying attention to the symbols on the page. These tell you how to express the emotion of the piece.

2. Learn Five Songs

By day 90, aim to have five songs you can play by heart. This gives you confidence! When a friend asks you to play, you won't have to say "I'm still learning." You can say "Sure! Listen to this!"

3. Prepare to Serve

Many of our students want to play in church. That is wonderful! Start looking at simple worship lead sheets. We love helping students transition from basic lessons to worship ministry.
